But now researchers are doing a new research, in which the oxygen level of your blood can be measured with the camera and flash of your smartphone. Researchers conducted a proof-of-principle study where they used a smartphone camera and its flash module to measure people’s blood oxygen saturation levels.
According to researchers, blood oxygen saturation levels can be reduced by up to 70 percent by using the smartphone’s camera and flash module. Although researchers are still doing research on this, but if this experiment is successful then you will be able to measure your blood oxygen level at your home. Which will save both your money and time.
Scientists applied for patent
According to media reports, the proof-of-principle study conducted by researchers from the University of Washington and the University of California San Diego has been published in the journal NPJ Digital Medicine. Researchers have applied for a patent for this technology. To measure blood oxygen levels, the study participants placed their fingers on the camera and flash module of a Google Nexus 6P smartphone. The data obtained was used to train a deep-learning algorithm to measure blood oxygen levels.
Hoffman, a doctoral student at the University of Washington who was involved in this research, said that in early 2020 there were some apps on the App Store, which made this work possible. But due to technical flaws, they were removed from the App Store. He further added that the apps may still be available, but none can be used for medical use.
