New York – Spread anime classics with the likes of Astro Boy, Sailor Moon, and Pokémon, Bonhams anime world Online sales ready to go live January 24 – February 2 And it will include over 150 rare anime production sales and drawings. A relic of the pre-digital animation era, anime was originally produced by hand-painting sheets of celluloid (production cells) one frame at a time and then layered to create the effect of constant motion. These production sales allow fans to own a solid portion of the most recognizable anime in the world.
Leading the opening sale is a production sale featuring the eponymous character of Kiki’s delivery service with her partner Jiji, who is supposedly $15,000 – 25,000. This standout take on celluloid work is from Gouache’s studio Hayao Miyazaki, A leading animation filmmaker. Produced and originally released by Studio Ghibli in 1989, Kiki’s Delivery Service was the first film to be released with an English dub less than a decade later as part of the studio’s partnership with Disney.
