Ryan Reynolds announced the actor’s highly anticipated return as the character in a Twitter video while revealing that ‘Deadpool 3’ will release on September 6, 2024.
“Hard keeping my mouth sewn shut about this one,” he captioned the post.

Reynolds says in the video, “I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, and meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
“Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” Reynolds asks as Jackman walks by in the background.
“Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies.
The video ends with Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” — subtitled as “I will always love Hugh”. The Deadpool logo appears, then is quickly sliced up by Wolverine’s adamantium claws.
Jackman reportedly hung up his claws after playing the Wolverine in 2016’s R-rated “Logan”. Wolverine famously died at the end of the film, prompting Jackman to say that the film was his swan song.
Jackman last played the Wolverine opposite Reynolds’ Deadpool in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’. In the film, the clawed mutant kills off the character in a battle scene.
Rumours of Hugh’s return as the superhero were further fueled when a fan asked him about the same. The actor’s reaction to the question didn’t help water down the reports. Although, at the time, it was believed that he would return as Wolverine in ‘Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness’.
Rumours are also ripe that while the character will return, a new actor may take over. However, there has been no confirmation about the same.
