Based on the Japanese fantasy novels by award-winning author Nahoko Uhashi, the original author of the famous Morito: Guardians of the Spirit series. The film is directed by Masashi Ando, who served as chief animation director on Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, and is also an animation director on Your Name.

Born in 1969, Masashi Ando was chosen at the tender age of 25 as chief animation director of Hayao Miyazaki’s fantasy epic Princess Mononoke, and served as the right-hand man of the legendary autobiography on his Academy Award-winning Spirited Away.
